Michael Briel - Tubular Setup

FINALLY! Some new music! NEW as in "made and recorded just now". :) The first time I sat down with cubase in over five years! :)

Man, that feels good - and now I don't even know why I stopped in the first place!

The tune is quite obviously a variation on the finale of Tubular Bells by Mister Mike Oldfield, I thought that was the best way to give all the instruments, cubase and the new mixer a good final test. And it doesn't sound too bad either. ;)

Tubular Set up

this is a very nice derivation of TB at first I thought it was just going to be some midi stuff but it turned out to be a righteous piece of a tribute to Oldfield.
It is a very pleasant sound, to me it is like hearing Kraftwerk playing oldfield.
great stuff thank you for putting in the time and effort.

thanks

i first had the pleasure of listening to this great music nine years ago and i would go to say i love listening. if i was forced to have a favourite artist of all time it would have to be one michael breil and i mean that from the bottom of my heart
with many many thanks for the great music kevin. age 42

Wow! (answer to kevin)

Thank you! Thanks a LOT! :)

While I'm aware that there are of course a few people out there who like my music I honestly would never have assumed that I would become someone's *favourite* anytime soon!

Wow again, this is like pretty cool! :)

And it gives me another kick of motivation to go on making new music, now I got started with the above little tune.

You write you first encountered the music 9 years ago - that must have been on mp3.com, right? Yes, sounds about right... 1999 - that was the year I closed my computergames-shop in the Münsterstraße here in Bonn and mp3.com back then actually helped me pay my rent for a while. :)

i do believe in given credit where its due . yes nine years ago i never knew how a computor worked a very good friend of mine john carter who lives and breathes computors took time and patients to show me what to do he asked me what would i like to mainly do on the computor, silly question if you know me. like john he may live and breathe computors i live for music and get fed up with main stream music when i know there is lots of other talent around. i have long term r/a and want to keep positive. i found mp3.com and i was well away listening to music and im glad i did. thanks for the music it really is great. please for my sake keep motivated and see if you could find a track you could dedicate one for me that will keep me motivated ,living with r/a isnt easy but you have helped me. many thanks again

What is r/a?

... if you don't mind the question. I assume it's a medical condition, right?

I feel with you, having a chronic condition sucks. I myself suffer from a chronic (hah!) Crohn's disease, but 95% of the time at least I don't feel it, so I'm rather lucky up to now.

I know that the right music at the right time can make you feel much better when you're down and now I'm honestly a little bit proud that mine can too. :) I often wonder how my music would sound to myself if I hadn't made it, because of course your emotional response is another one of you are a listener - and feedback like your's is possibly the closest I'll ever get to that.

I assume it will take a little time for me to really get new music "flowing" again, because I had such a long break and there still is other things to take care of, like earning a little bit of money to be able to live from, but be assured that there WILL be more new music. Now that I know I actually have a *fan* I can't stop! :)

SORRY

Im sorry i forgot to ask, if you dont mind me asking how long have you had Crohn's disease? i got so carried away with everything and it was very hard to understand what i last written do forgive me for that.

No problem

I've got crohn's for about 5-10 years now. I don't know exactly when it started, but was diagnosed 5 years ago.

ok thank u

thank you. oh well least if you do have any problems or frustrating times im your expert in that field. ill be here to share that and keep you going with the talent and imagination you have for your music. By the way i got to say i love the hubble track especially when played loud.

You're welcome to stick around. :)

And thanks for your offer, it's good to know others care!

Yes, true - Hubble is made to be played loud. Part of the inspiration for that tune was LFO's "Tied Up" a local club was playing quite often back then, and that was a stomach-shaking tune over the PA. :)

ILL TAKE U UP ON THE KIND OFFER

kevin

Thanks. :)

Kraftwerk playing Oldfield - now there's a record I'd buy at once. Too bad that it's even less likely to happen than me winning the lottery - and I don't even play. ;)

Yes, I'm aware that the beginning might be a little turnoff, but for the first few devices I more or less used the order in which I got them - and the MT32 sure sounds very general midi, if I'm not mistaken the standard is based on modules like this one.

Actually back when Games still had general midi music I played some of them with the mt32 attached - X-Wing, for example, comes to mind. Some games even had stuff like credits or highscores running over it's display - via sysex data, I assume. :)

New Musik...

Very Cool. I very much dig.

Where was this when I was studying the other night...
it's great concentration music.

Next time I log on to myspace, I'm adding it as TheGobshite Theme Music.

Some conclusions

Apart from the fact that handling Cubase and the Synthesizers came back pretty fast - I guess it's like riding a bike a bit - What most intrigues me when I listen to this new track is how big of a difference there is between my old mixer table and the Behringer I now really used for the first time.

First of all it offers a bunch of little buttons for many functions the old one simply didn't have, allowing you to cleverly reroute or group instruments on the mixer and giving you much more control. The old one had a built in equalizer, the Behringer has a much better one with more bands. And even with the equalizer switched off for now I have the feeling, that what comes out of this baby's line out is much crisper and has much more punch on the bass - seems a *lot* was lost on the old mixer by default that I now can hear for the first time.

The sounds seem more "real" or "alive" somehow... Hard to describe...

I think the Behringer and I, we're going to have *so* much fun together... ;)
