Weekend! Party! Aciiiid! :)

This is the complete set DJ Ottic played on the GemJam festival (with some additional bleeps by yours truly). Instead of record players he used the - back then still unusual - method of combining loops and samples on a computer. Or rather two - he used two Commodore Amigas.

For the earth part of the Elements cycle I was looking for a heavy, strong base for the whole tune, for obvious reasons. Think heavy earthworks, flowing magma.

Achieved is this by using a, well, heavy, strong bass line, that doesn't mock around and stays where it is, accompanied by the pitch shifted percussion, that goes down as well. Not too complicated to see the thought behind it. :)

The melodic bits and parts, if looking for influences, today remind me very strongly of Alan Parsons music - I assume because of the E-Piano bits and how they are played.

Other than The Void, Ambient 01 actually features a grooving slow beat. I don’t know about you, but to me this tune says “onward... onward...” ;) In fact the original version of the tune was about twice as long as this “short edit”, but since this even for me seemed a *bit* long I did this second version.

This one’s not only one of my favourite Kobayashi Maru productions but one of the best tracks I *ever* did. I don’t know why, but here everything fits together - dark lyrics about an over-technological world, really *electronic* sounds and the computer voice (from the Commodore Amiga) - it simply works. So it was no wonder, that I choose this as the final track for my first live performance.

It does sound a bit like Clock DVA, but unlike Circle of Evil it wasn’t meant to be a rip off, it simply ended up that way. And it still got enough of my own character in it anyway.
